Born in Milan, he graduated in 1999 from Politecnico di Milano, achieved 100/100 with a thesis entitled: “Abbiategrasso restituita al Naviglio: il museo delle acque” (Prof. Guido Canella and Prof. Vincenzo Donato).
Gian Luca is member of the Milan Institute of Architects since 2000 and the ARB and RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) since 2008. From 2001 to 2004 he was lecturer, assistant and tutor at Milan Polytechnic in the course of Urban Planning and Architecture with Professors Vincenzo Donato and Gian Paolo Semino, alongside the educational and research activities Gian Luca has been involved in numerous residential and commercial projects of different scale. Since 2003 he was put in charge by the City of Abbiategrasso for the preparation of the Plan for rural area and the Guidelines for Sustainable Housing developments (with SdArch). In the same year he coordinated the installation of the exhibition “New Ways of Living.” In 2004 he began the collaboration with Douglas Wallace of Dublin an award-winning architectural practice with an international reputation for design and realisation of retail, hotels, and mixed-use developments at public scale. He was part of the strategy team where he authored several masterplans, feasibility studies for retail, residential and office schemes in Ireland, UK and Poland. Gian Luca has been collaborating with the London office of Benoy Architects since 2007 where he was responsible for the urban regeneration of Leeds: “The Templar Arcade- Eastgate regeneration” and the Noor Al Ain office tower in Abu Dhabi. In May 2009 Gian Luca founded Gibane to provide a focused and defined architectural and design service in the educational and residential sector.
